PCPP Highlights

The Park City Point to Point has become an instant classic. It is like that perfect bowl of porridge that Goldilocks found so appetizing: Not to cold, and not to hot. That is, it was just hard enough that you are going to be feeling it for the next umpteen days, and yet enjoyable enough that, at least for me, there were never any thoughts or plans to never, ever ride my bike again. It was, “just right”.

A few highlights:

  • Taking a $1 hand up from Sly Fox was classic. The fact that he was dressed like Little Bo Peep made it legendary.
  • Passing a low-feeling K.C. Holley 30 miles in, and then having an angry, scorching fast K.C. ride away from me at mile 60.
  • Riding through the early morning rain, watching a sunrise and rainbow greet our suffering with natural, almost surreal beauty.
  • Spending most of the day with a group of the same 6-8 riders. But now I owe Aaron a churro. Dammit!
  • The second wind when I reached the Mid-mountain Trail. I felt like a million dollars.
  • I went off course. A lot. The course was very well marked. My eyes were to blame. #^%&** color blindness!
  • The Garmin 705 helped. A lot. (see above).
  • Descending for what seemed like days, through techy, tight, demanding trail. it was harder than the climbing. Really.
  • The climbing. I loved every inch of it. I wanted more. Well, that is until about mile 70, then I just wanted to be done.
  • A flat tire at mile 73, within ear shot of the finish cost me 15 minutes. It was my turn to be angry.

It was, in the end, a most memorable day. More to come tomorrow. As for now?

I’m going to take a nap.

The highlight of the day for me was not being passed by you or Aaron. I fully expected you guys to blaze past me at some point. Thanks for staying behind me.

Mmmmm… I can’t wait for those churros. They were the only thing that kept me motivated from miles 45-60.
