Moab’s Random Thoughts

I always need a few days to wrap my brain around the 24 Hours of Moab. This year is no different. Except, that it is taking me longer to muddle through the sand and rock and sun. Someplace among all that is the story of 2009 – a story that is blessedly free of hostile weather. It was, in fact, the best weather I have ever seen at the 24 Hours of Moab. Which means, of course that the next several years will probably be…inclement.

Despite not being able to think clearly, or type without considerable effort, there are a few thoughts starting to make their way down from wherever it is they reside:

I’ve now done 37 laps on that course (in 6 races).
I never once wanted to be one of the solo racers this year.
Utah has a lot of really fast mountain bikers.
I’m still not sure how to pronounce ‘Tukuhnikivatz’.
2 large mugs of hot cocoa at 4AM seemed like a good idea at the time.
Redundantly doing awards twice was redundant.
A full suspension 29er is heaven in Moab.
I still have sand in my ears.
Going to 5 Guys with Aaron and Keith on Monday seemed like a good idea at the time.
    Chris Holley rides fast.
Can we outlaw dogs at the race?
There was sand where there usually isn’t, and no sand where there usually is. Sort of.
Watching the Le Mans start never gets old.
I still need to unpack most of my gear.
I got lucky and rode both the sunset and sunrise laps.
The Granny Gear team tells odd stories when stalling for time.
I saw a lot of people crash – in the timing tent.

And now, my brain hurts. Racing in 2009 is over and out. And as usual, the 24 Hours of Moab was an appropriate leap into the coming winter. For now however, I think I need to put my feet up and take a nap.

I’ve been awake for nearly 2 hours.
