Surrender to the Flow

“The trick was to surrender to the flow.”

~Lizards, by Phish.

I learned something while racing my bike Monday. I learned that Rush, a trail in Corner Canyon that I have always thought was poorly built and designed, is not meant to be ridden slowly or tepidly. To take advantage of the banked corners, table-tops, and various launch-pads, I had to ride faster than I was comfortable doing. In order to do that, I had to let go; of the brakes, and my own inhibition. I had to surrender to the flow.

When I was able to do that, I rode better. Faster. And with more confidence. For the first time, I enjoyed riding Rush.

All I had to do was trust my abilities, and the laws physics.
