Trail 252, also known as “Joy” got shredded to pieces. I sure hope the motorcycle(s) that did this had fun. Because it is not going to be fun trying to repair all that damage.
“Joy” is part of the Wasatch Classic route, and claims one of the most thrilling descents you will ever ride. It is fast, smooth, banked and just encouraging enough to flash your life before your eyes as you dodge pine trees, low hanging branches, rocks, and fleeing animals.
It certainly is joy.

June 18, 2008Turns out we think alike. I just posted a motorcycling rant myself. It blows me away that motorized vehicles are still allowed on this trail system.

Most moto’s I’ve encountered and talked to would be pissed too. A bad apple.

June 19, 2008I’ve seen more motos on the AF Canyon trails than ever before. They are tearing those trails up.
That swampy section is always bad, but I’ve never seen it this bad. The central trench is easily 2 feet deep. How did they even get through?
From what I know, many of the delicate trails in AF Canyon were closed to motos, but they sued and the judge decreed that the trails go back to the old status until the case is decided. I have no idea if the case is still alive. By the time those fragile alpine trails are closed to mots (if ever) they will be completely trashed. Sad.
One way to oppose the motos is to mountain bike and hike up there as much as possible. It’s a hassle for them to pass and maybe they’ll get tired of those “congested” trails and go back to trashing Tibble Fork where few people bike or hike.

June 19, 2008We came up with names so we didn’t have to live like we were in LA. Trail Numbers…pssshha, maybe if I were a moto and had nothing else to fill my brain with I could fill the space with memorizing trail numbers. Nah, I prefer the names. I suggested to Jesse that we might contact USFS and work this section for the July 12th trail maintenance day. Thoughts?
