The Beard

Posted by on Jun 4, 2008 in Uncategorized | No Comments

I grew out my beard during the summer of 2006. I did it because I wanted some hairy mojo for the E100. I kept it around through the winter, and came to be rather fond of it. Recently I have started to let it grow thicker and thicker. And it seems, the bigger it gets, the more I like it.

It makes for a great conversation piece (and a convenient spot to dry my wet hands). “So when are you going to cut that?” “What does your wife say about your beard?” “Don’t you get hot with that?”

And so on.

The reality is that 99% of the time I forget it is there. I don’t think it makes me hot (well, the ladies seem to think otherwise…ha!), it doesn’t itch, and no, I don’t know when I am going to cut it thank you very much.

But when I do cut it it will come off in stages.

First the chin will go, leaving a nice Civil War look.

The burns will be next, leaving the classic handlebar ‘stache.

After that, I will trim it down a bit more until all that remains is the Kip Dynamite.

But until then, Grizzly Adam is what you get.

I still say you look more and more like Ed Abbey the longer it grows. I think it’s sweet – let it grow man, let it grow! I only wish I had the ability to grow a full beard. Mine is just too spotty.

It looks good on you. Keep it as long as you like, is my vote.

I tried to grow a beard once a few years back. It wasn’t pretty. Seems I have various colors of facial hair: dark brown, light brown and gray. The beard looked like a calico cat.

There’s probably some nifty way to post a picture in the comment, but I don’t know how to do it. Anyway, I grow a beard in the winter so I have someplace to hang the icicles when I’m skiing. When I shaved it off earlier this year, I did the handlebar stache thing long enough for my wife to snap a photo. Let’s just say there’s a reason I finished the job.

    That beard rules.

    Ski Bike Junkie,

I once grew out a little Kip Dynamite style ‘stache and I scared myself when I looked in the mirror. I started up a handlebar one also, but that too was disturbing.

Which is one reason I want to revisit it at some point. I think the comedy of it might trump the ugliness? Probably not. 🙂

Carney that is awesome! I might just have to do something like that.

The beard works well with the SS ride.
